Introduction:
The Election of 2008, promises to be one of the closest presidential
elections in our nation’s history. As Americans prepare to cast their
votes in November, it is important that they get to know where each
presidential candidate stands on the issues in order to make an informed
decision. This activity is designed to help you become more familiar
with the major issues of our time and where each candidate stands in
relation to them. Part
I Directions:
1. On the right hand side of the screen, select “Compare Issues”.
Use the links
found under each candidate to complete the activity. The links will take
you to
an interactive site which explains the major issues and each candidates
positions
on the issues.
2. Use the web site to complete a “Comparing
the Issues Chart”. (Do not copy)
Part II
Directions:
1. After completing the “Comparing
the Issues Chart” it is now time to display the
information you discovered in order to help inform others about each of
the
major issues and the candidates position on them.
* There are many ways to display the information you found. Choose from
the
list below. Choose only THREE major issues to display.
1. Create a colorful poster board containing the information about the
candidates and issues you gathered. It should be neatly constructed and
colorful. Art work, design, and layout should be planned before
construction in order to produce the best possible product.
2. Create a PowerPoint presentation or slide show displaying the
information
you gathered about each issue. Design and layout should be planned
before construction in order to produce the best possible product. Turn
in
both a printed and electronic copy of your work. You may also create a
web page if you so desire.
3. Use a graphics program such as paint or Photoshop to create a
colorful and
informative chart displaying the information you found about each
candidate. The chart should be neatly constructed and colorful. Design
and layout should be planned before construction in order to produce the
best possible product. Turn in both a printed and electronic copy of
your
work.
Summary and
Review of Directions:
1. Gather information about each candidate & issue to complete the
chart.
2. Display that information neatly and creatively in one of the three
formats above.
3. Turn in your best work on time!
