I think that Christopher was a genius to deceieve his crew. It was a time where mutiny was common and Colombus did not want to have enemies on his ship when he had the chance to find some unknown land that may give him and his country wealth and power beyond belief. If the crew was told they had gone the whole way they were suppose to, and found nothing, they would have wanted to turn around and go back to Spain.
