What is the "writing process"?

The "writing process" is a series of steps that will help an individual or student better compose a written composition such as an essay.  The writing process consists of the steps listed below:

Step #1 Brainstorming: Here you should gather your ideas writing down your first thoughts about a topic.

Step #2 Prewriting: The prewriting process represents a framework or outline for your ideas.  It places the information that you wish to write about in a logical format and organizes your ides.

Step #3 Sentence Composition: In this step, writers turn the ideas found in their prewriting into complete sentences.

Step #4 Revision:  Revision is the most important aspect of the writing process.  Nearly 85% of the writing process should consist of this step.  In this step you should check and edit your work correcting mistakes and changing content to increase the quality of your writing.

Step #5 Final Copy: After you have revised your work, put it all together in one complete and accurate version to be presented and turned into the teacher.
