Unit #100: Discovering the Lost Colony of Roanoke!
Learning Target: I can RESEARCH facts about the Lost Colony of Roanoke and compose a well written HYPOTHESIS explaining what I think happened to the lost colony.  

Please complete the steps below to prepare for this assignment:

 Today you will be examining evidence from the Lost Colony of Roanoke in order to discover what happened to the colony.  Follow the directions listed below.  Use the numbers  to help
 you follow the directions in order to be successful.  




White Activity:

   -  In 1587, 117 English men and women set sail for America.  When they arrived they build the first perminate English colony in America known as Roanoke.  However by 1590, all of the
       settlers and their buildings had vanished!  Use your skills as a historian to discover what happened to the "Lost Colony of Roanoke!"

Take a few moments to read over the "Things to know as you look for the Lost Colony" bullet points below.  Try to become familiar with these questions.  They will help you discover what
     happened to the Lost Colony!

2.  Copy and paste these questions into a new google doc.  Please be sure to save your work.

 Task #3: What did you discover about the Lost Colony of Roanoke?

1.  Now that you have examined the evidence, it is time to create your own hypothesis about what you think happened to the Lost Colony of Roanoke. 

     In your google doc, use what you have learned to make a claim and write hypothesis about what you think happened to the people of Roanoke.  Your hypothesis should begin with the words:

     "I believe that the people of Roanoke disappeared because  . . . . ."

2.  Now that you have a hypothesis, it's time to write a well written paragraph using your supporting details.  Use what you learned about the Lost Colony of Roanoke in part 2 to support your hypothesis. 
     Each supporting detail can become a sentence in your paragraph.  Copy and paste the outline for your paragraph into your google doc and fill in your supporting details

    Sentence #1: Your hypothesis:    "I believe that the people of Roanoke disappeared because  . . . . ."

    Sentence #2: Supporting detail #1: __________________________ (proof from part 2 that your hypothesis is correct)

    Sentence #3: Supporting detail #2: __________________________ (proof from part 2 that your hypothesis is correct)

    Sentence #5: Conclusion sentence - restate your hypothesis
