Unit #1: What is Wrong With The Jamestown Colony?  Jamestown Mystery
Learning Target: I can HYPOTHESIZE why over 80% of Jamestown's early inhabitants died using the clues and primary sources provided. 

Please complete the steps below to prepare for this assignment:

 Follow the directions below.  You will be creating a tab for this assignment after you have added this lesson's learning target to your LiveBinder.

1.  Open the "Learning Targets" tab in your LiveBinder.  Copy the learning target above into your LiveBinder. 

2.  Create a new tab in your LiveBinder titled "Jamestown Mystery". 

3.  Now click on "content" > "text" > "text-media" option.

 Part I: Solving the Jamestown Mystery

1.  Something is wrong in the colony of Jamestown.  It seems that nearly 80% of the colony's population is mysteriously dying.  You have been asked by the king to examine what is happening in Jamestown and
     report your findings back to him.  Use the clues and primary sources provided to discover what is happening in Jamestown and complete the What's Wrong with Jamestown Digital Worksheet.  Your teachers
     will help you along in a step by step process.  The settlers are and your king are counting on you!


2.  Download the What's Wrong with Jamestown Digital Worksheet to your MacBook. 

3.  Open the file in Microsoft Word.   Save the file with the following file name: Your_Last_Name_Jamestown_Mystery. Be sure to save the file somewhere on your computer that you can remember so that you
     will be able to open it again in the future. 

4.  Wait for your teacher's directions and complete each section of the worksheet using the clues and primary sources.

5.  When you have completed the entire What's Wrong with Jamestown Digital Worksheet, upload your completed work to your Live Binder.

7.  After watching the video write a well written CEI paragraph (5 or more sentences) evaluating your letter to the king.  Did you and your group solve the Jamestown mystery or is your letter to the king
     inaccurate.  Use your CEI paragraph to explain your answer.

2.  Copy and paste the following questions into your LiveBinder text box: 

     Step #1: AFTER EXAMINING AND PREVIEWING THE CLUES AND EVIDENCE, WRITE YOUR OWN HYPOTHESIS TO EXPLAIN WHY YOU THINK JAMESTOWN IS IN TROUBLE.

     Step#2: LIST THE NAMES OF THE PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUP.  SHARE DISCUSS YOUr HYPOTHESES WITH YOUR GROUP.  MAKE A LIST ANY SIMILARITIES & DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THEM.

      Step #3: AS A GROUP, EXAMINE THE EVIDENCE & CLUES PROVIDED.  LIST ANY NOTABLE OBSERVATIONS.  YOU SHOULD LIST CLUES THAT SEEM TO GO TOGETHER IN ORDER TO PAINT A
                     PICTURE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING IN JAMESTOWN, VIRGINIA.

     STEP #4: AFTER EXAMINING THE CLUES AND EVIDENCE AS A GROUP, WRITE A GROUP HYPOTHESIS TO EXPLAIN WHY THE GROUP THINKS JAMESTOWN IS IN TROUBLE.

     STEP #5: BASED ON YOUR GROUPíS HYPOTHESIS, WRITE A LETTER TO THE KING EXPLAINING WHY JAMESTOWN IS IN SO MUCH TROUBLE.  THE LETTER SHOULD ANSWER THE QUESTIONS
                    PRESENTED ON THE FIRST PAGE AND PROVE THAT YOUR GROUPíS HYPOTHESIS IS CORRECT.  EACH MEMBER OF THE GROUP NEEDS TO WRITE THEIR OWN LETTER.

4.  Conduct an Internet search for a picture of the Jamestown Colony.  Save the image to your Chromebook.  Then upload it to your LiveBinder media box (content > insert file > find the image)

5.  Wait for your teacher's directions and complete each step you copied and pasted into your LiveBinder using the clues and primary sources found on the Jamestown site by clicking on the image below.
