How are Shiloh's Leaders Making a
Difference?
The
Shiloh Leadership Club will begin it's second year this
2008-09 school year. This year about 25 dedicated
students have chosen to participate in the club and have
worked very hard to help others in their community.
For the past several weeks Shiloh's leaders have been
working on developing and
implementing community service projects both at Shiloh
and within the city of Parma.
After several brainstorming
sessions they are planning to accomplish several of
these challenges before the end of this school year.
The
club's main focus is on helping and giving back to the
greater Parma community. Shiloh's Leaders have
begun a Peer Tutoring & Mentoring
Program to help elementary students at State Road
School experience academic success and enhanced social
skills.

Leadership club is
also currently planning functions in local nursing homes and
hospices designed to help those in need. Although the
Shiloh Leadership Club did not recieve grant funding
this year, the students have taken on the challenge of
funding these programs by conducting bake sales. Shiloh Leadership Club is also planning
on jumping into the political area by actively
participating in the Parma City Schools Levy Campaign
whose outcome will effect the lives of every citizen in
Parma.

What are the Goals of the Shiloh
Leadership Club?
There are many goals of the
program, but to sum it up, we want students to learn
specific knowledge and skills related to leadership, and
have the opportunity to learn about the relationship
between school
and citizenship not only in
the classroom, but within the community as well. Lastly,
we want students at Shiloh to recognize their leadership
qualities and potential and develop skills to take
responsibility of choices.
Some of the projects that the
students worked on last year (2008) were:
A
students
vs.
teachers basketball game where money raised was donated
to the Relay for Life, a food drive for families within
our community, made cards for the elderly and sick, and
a talent and fashion show.
